Welcome to the official Dexios Linux website!
About Dexios Linux
Currently a dream, soon to be a reality! Dexios Linux is a Christ-centered Linux distribution based on Ubuntu but aimed at Christ-centered development—in whatever field that may be. Providing Christians with the best, open-source tools available for—but not limited to—development in computer programming, web design, graphic design, video editing, Bible study, including tools for pastors and churches, and more! Keep track of the official Dexios Linux blog to be aware of news and development concerning Dexios Linux.
Desktop Environment
Unlike other Christian Linux distributions out there, this distribution will not be using any well-known desktop environments out there—like KDE, GNOME, Xfce, LXDE, et cetera. Seeking to be unique, it will make use of a specially designed, custom desktop environment, specifically made for Dexios Linux. The desktop environment itself is designed to promote development for it. Relying on mostly plug-ins for its functions, it can pretty much be called the Firefox of desktop environments.
Programming
By default Dexios Linux will come with Python, PHP, Ruby, and others, all with their GUI modules for GTK and Qt. Also will be included SWORD Python modules. In order to spare space, you'll have as an IDE a program called Geany. Though lightweight, it is a very nice IDE and supports all languages mentioned and more!
Web Design
As mentioned before, Geany supports more languages than just the ones already mentioned. Though it doesn't come with its own WYSIWYG editor, it does have support for HTML, CSS, JavaScript, et cetera. And of course, as already mentioned, Dexios Linux will come shipped with PHP, Python and Ruby, but also with the Apache web server configured to work with PHP, Python and Ruby. Proprietary or closed-source software, like Java, will have to be installed separately (through Ubuntu's repository).
Graphic Design
Whether 2D or 3D, rastor or vector, Dexios Linux provides you with powerful and well-known image manipulation programs the open-source community knows. The next best thing to Adobe PhotoShop the open-source community has to offer is the GIMP—useful for general-purpose image manipulation. For vector-based designs, there is InkScape, which is a decent alternative to Adobe Illustrator. For 3D modeling, comparable to even commercial software, there is Blender.
The Future
As Dexios Linux matures, many applications will be replaced with Dexios Linux specific programs, making Dexios Linux even more unique, and hopefully more useful. Though some programs may not be shipped with Dexios Linux, they will still be available for download and installation through Ubuntu's repository.
